It might almost be the end of the year but now’s the time to book ahead and plan your next adventure. In the magnificent Dorset, there’s always something happening, from the Tank Museum to the Swanage Railway the fun never stops.

To help you plan your next trip we’ve found some of the best upcoming events that you just simply need to visit.

The Tank Museum

Based in Bovington, Dorset, the Tank Museum is the best place in the UK to visit if you love tanks. With over 300 tanks on display and plenty of exhibitions, you’ll need at least a whole day to explore the vast grounds of the museum.

Coming in February 2017, the Tank Museum will be hosting a model expo which will include a large selection of exhibitors displaying all types of models. From boats, planes, racing cars to armoured model vehicles, there will be plenty of models to view.

There will also be numerous traders and stockists situated throughout the event, as well as the museum’s own volunteer Modelling Association will be on hand to give handy advice. To view more information about the upcoming event, be sure to check the official Tank Museum website here.

Lulworth

lulworth bike ride

Lulworth Cove is a cove near the village of West Lulworth on the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site in Dorset. Located near the cove are several buildings including the Lulworth Castle, St. Andrew’s Church and Chapel of St. Mary which make up the Lulworth Estate.

Throughout the year there are several outdoor events held near the estate from mountain biking to hill walking to Easter fun. Next year in September, Lulworth will be holding their annual off-road cycling event. In 2016, 40 riders took on the epic 59km route of Jurassic coastline and countryside across the Lulworth Estate.

If you are a big cycling fan and fancy a challenge, then the Lulworth Off-road event is perfect for you. Visit their official website to find out more details about the upcoming event and to view photos of last year’s event.

Swanage Railway

Swanage Rail

Located in Swanage as the name suggests, the Swanage Railway hosts several events every year ranging from Christmas themed parties to unforgettable hands-on experiences. If you’re a big fan of steam trains, then you’ll love the steam driving course they have to offer.

From the 9th January to the 6th of February 2017, Swanage Railway will be allowing members of the public to operate their trains. Starting at 9:30 am in the morning and finishing at 4:30 pm in the afternoon, you’ll experience a typical day to day life of a driver. With an experienced driver on hand to help out, you’ll tour the Swanage line stopping off at all the stations and viewing the sights along the way.

To view the full itinerary of the day and what the experience includes be sure to visit their online website for more details information.

Monkey World

Monkey World

From the 19th to the 23rd December, Santa will be visiting Monkey World each evening. With mince pies, mulled wine, and fairy-lit buggy rides to Santa’s grotto it’s sure to be an event to remember. Unfortunately, all the tickets are currently sold out so you’ll have to wait until next year if you missed out.

If you are coming to visit Santa at Monkey World this Christmas, then be sure you’ve booked somewhere warm to stay afterwards!
